All day Sunday Mommy was in a lot of pain. It hurt to walk, to sit, to stand, everything. She knew something was coming! That night she had some really painful and hard contractions but managed to sleep most of the night. She got up and went to work on Monday, within half an hour she knew that had been a mistake. Grandma and Aunt Jenn came to get her and her car and meet Daddy at the hospital. We got there at about 9:30 a.m. and were at a three-plus and 90%. She was attached to monitors and left alone for an hour. We were checked and were a four-plus. She walked the hallways for about an hour before Guy came in to check her. He decided to admit her, so we were moved to our labor/delivery/recovery/stay suite. At about 4:00 p.m. Guy had promised he was going to come in soon to break her water, so she had the epidural put in. Up until this point she was in less pain than she'd been for weeks, Aunt Jenn had given her a back massage and she was feeling great. The epidural took care of any pain she had been feeling, and at about 5ish Guy broke our water. We took guesses at time and weight, everyone was 8:15 or later and between 6 lb 1 oz and 6 lb 6 oz. Shelby proved us all wrong, she was born at 7:04 and weighed 6 lb 13 oz. After she was born the placenta got stuck so Guy had to dig for a piece of it. Mommy didn't stop bleeding for a really long time, they had to hook up another IV and give her three different shots before her blood pressure came up enough she wasn't passing out. Then after about half an hour or so of feeling really good her blood pressure shot up and she went into shock. Finally at about 9:30 she got a good look at Shelby Kay Carter and got to hold her. It was decided that the epidural shunt and both IVs had to stay in all night in case Mommy needed a blood transfusion. She didn't sleep at all, the epidural was so uncomfortable. Shelby slept great though, Daddy stayed the night and didn't sleep very well in spite of the good sized bed. It doesn't matter how big the mattress is if it's only about half an inch thick. :o) Tuesday was a good day, Daddy went home and shopping for awhile, we didn't have a lot of
things since she came about four weeks early. Nana stayed with Mommy at the hospital and Big Sister Bailey came with Papa to visit again. Everyone came back to see us and Daddy gave a great toast. We were lucky enough that Guy came to check on Mommy at about the same time so he stayed for our toast. Then Mommy and Daddy got to have dinner by themselves, amazingly the food was really good the whole stay. Even Mommy was impressed. Wednesday we got up and came home. I'm so glad to be here!!
